Tumblr allows you to use custom domain names with their blogging service so your Tumblelog is hosted with their server but you're still using DNS, mail and our other services.
In the following instructions, let's assume you have registered yourdomain.com with us and it's currently hosted with us, either as a normal hosting account or maybe as a parked domain.
To host a your Tumblelog on Tumblr and have it accessible at http://www.yourdomain.com, you change the A record for yourdomain.com to point to their IP address as per the advice given on http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains. This can be done in your cPanel's DNS Editor.
That advice however will prevent mail from working on your domain via the aegis hosting servers since DNS will be telling other mail servers that mail is to be sent to tumblr's server.
To get mail working again follow the steps below...
- Log in to your cPanel
- Delete the CNAME record for mail.yourdomain.com. (using cPanel's Advanced DNS editor)
- Create an A record for mail.yourdomain.com that points to the IP address of the server you're on. (eg. for galahad.aegishosting.co.uk it's 78.46.63.87).
- Finally go to the MX Entry tool in cPanel and make sure the MX entry for your domain is pointing at mail.yourdomain.com and not just yourdomain.com
Then wait a bit for the DNS changes to propagate. That may take up to 72 hourse but is usually much quicker.
If reconfiguring DNS is beyond your comfort zone, please raise a support ticket and we can do this for you.
