Optimizing your website via cPanel

You can quickly and simply improve the performance of your website by going to your cPanel at www.yoursite.com/cPanel and clicking on the 'Optimize Website' in the Software/Services section.

In that, select 'Compress all content' and all files will be compressed by the server using GZIP prior to being sent to a visitor's browser. It's then expanded again on your visitor's computer by any modern browser.

If you'd prefer only certain types of files to be compressed, then you can select which by specifying their mime type. The defaults are for HTML and text. If your site has a lot of images, audio or video that is already compressed, this may be a better idea.

Feel free to experiment with this setting. To test what works for your site, you may wish to use Yahoo's Yslow performance tool.
